Louisa Wei
Dr. S. Louisa Wei is a documentary filmmaker, award-winning writer, and senior associate professor at the City University of Hong Kong. Her research and creative works converge in the (re)writing of (trans)national Chinese cinema history by restoring overlooked female directors and of modern Chinese history by restoring leftist writer-intellectuals eliminated from the official record. She has three feature documentaries–Havana Divas (2018), Golden Gate Girls (2014), and Storm under the Sun (2009, co-directed with Xiaolian Peng)–and three TV documentaries to date. She has published eight books, and five of them are extensive writings related to her documentaries. She has been researching and publishing on Chinese and Japanese women directors for years, and her research has recently been reported by BBC and many other media and news.
