Aboneh Ashagrie

Aboneh Ashagrie Zeiyesus is associate professor of theatre arts and film at Addis Ababa University. He received his BA in Theatre Arts (Distinction) from Addis Ababa University, and his MA in Theatre Arts from the University of Akron (USA). He has published many plays, short stories and journal articles. He has worked in the sphere of academic administration at Addis Ababa University as: Acting Vice President of Administration and Finance; Administrative Officer; External Relation Officer; Director of Cultural Centre; and Chairman of the Theatre Arts Department. He is currently serving as Vice President of the Addis Ababa University Teachers Association; member of the Jury for the International Ethiopian Film Festival; Board Member of the Addis-Africa Film Festival; and Member of the Advisory Board for the implementation of the Ethiopian Film Policy. He has received the title of Laureate Abyssinia, award of merit from Wolkite University and the Ethiopian National Theatre for contributions to the development of Ethiopian theatre and film. He is recipient of the Open Society Foundation 2017 and 2018 Awards. He has been a Visiting Scholar at the College of West Bohemia, Czech Republic (2018); Wagner College, New York (2017); and Tshwane University, South Africa (2009).
