‘Decolonising The Archive: Eight Artefacts From Around the World’ – MA Publishing at LCC, UAL

Decolonising The Archive: Eight Artefacts From Around the World (2025) is a project run with students on the MA Publishing course at LCC, UAL. Click here to access the booklet.
After a workshop session organised by academic and collection specialist librarians Gavin Clarke and David Smith (in which collaborators explored items in the special print collection) students wrote a selection of articles reviewing the objects with a postcolonial lens. Dr Sonali Misra, whose research expertise focuses on examining postcolonial publishing, contributed valuable insights to the workshop. Articles explore a range of representations from different periods; from a Christian narrative that disregards the history of indigenous peoples of Canada to the colonial gaze presented in a travelogue from India. The articles were then collated in a publication – managed and designed by a group of nine LCC students; they undertook every stage of the publishing process independently to produce a beautiful and fascinating booklet. The project was set up by Dr Frania Hall and sponsored by the LCC Social Purpose Fund.
